“The Morning After”

Yufi Yamamotoは、自身の記憶に残るカリフォルニアの風景を起点に、色彩と感情を重ね合わせた作品を制作してきました。

アメリカ西海岸で過ごした時間のなかで出会った光や空気、音楽、そしてサーフカルチャーの記憶は、風景や人物のモチーフとして画面に現れます。

鮮やかな色彩で描かれた人物たちは、特定の誰かを表すものではなく、人種や属性を超えた存在として描かれています。それらは鑑賞者それぞれの記憶や感情を受け止める余白となり、個人的な体験でありながらも普遍性を帯びた風景を立ち上げています。

本展では、そうした人物像に加え、あえて人物を描かず、人の存在や記憶の痕跡を風景のなかに滲ませた作品も発表されます。そこに残されているのは誰かが過ごした時間の気配であり、見る者それぞれの記憶や感情を静かに呼び起こします。

作家の原風景から立ち上がるイメージは、見る者自身の経験と重なりながら、静かな物語を呼び起こします。

また本展では、Yufiが近年取り組んできた油彩作品を国内で初めて発表いたします。本展会場では新作15点を展示予定です。

絵具を幾重にも重ねることで生まれる質感や奥行きは、作家が描き続けてきた風景や感情に新たな広がりをもたらし、その表現にさらなる深度を与えています。

記憶の中にある場所と現在の感覚、その往復のなかで生まれた新たな作品群をぜひご覧ください。

“The Morning After”

The Morning After ということばがある。

二日酔いという意味もあるが、何かしらの大騒ぎや大きな出来事があった後の、静まり返った朝と、それに伴う気だるさという意味もある。

自分の絵を見ていると、なんとも言えない気だるさを感じる。

何か嵐のような出来事がやっと去って、一息ついている感じだ。

不思議な既視感に包まれると同時に、今の緊迫した世の中との強いコントラストを感じる。

私の絵画が、混沌した世界の後に訪れる安堵の静寂なのか、カオスの隙間に息づく人々の日常なのか。

ただ、この絵を前にしたひとときのなかで、誰かにとっての小さな平和や安らぎが訪れることを願っている。

The Morning After.

This phrase can mean waking up with a hangover, but it can also describe the quiet morning that follows a great commotion or a significant event, along with the lingering sense of fatigue that comes with it.

When I look at my paintings, I feel that same indescribable weariness. It feels as though a storm has finally passed, and there is a moment to pause and catch one's breath.

At the same time, I am enveloped by a strange sense of déjà vu. The images seem to stand in stark contrast to the tension and uncertainty of the world we live in today.

I wonder whether my paintings depict the calm and relief that arrive after a chaotic world, or the everyday lives that quietly persist in the spaces between chaos.

I simply hope that, in the time spent with these paintings, a small sense of peace and comfort might find its way to someone.
